Narration of Interrogative Sentences

Rules:

I) 'asked' or 'inquired of' will be used instead of 'Reporting Verb'.

II) If the 'Reported Speech' begins with an auxiliary verb, 'if' or 'whether' will be used.

Example

1. He said to me,'' Are you going now?''

Ans. He asked me if I was going then.

3. He said to me,"Are you well."

4. The teacher said to him,"Can you work out the sum?"

5. He said to me,"Do you know my name?"

6. She said to him,"Did you go to school?"

7. "Can I see the manager",I said.

8. He said to me,"Did you lose any money yesterday?"

9. He said to me,"Did you travel by air?"

10. My father said to me,"Is my breakfast ready?"

11. My father said to me,"Will you not go to school?"

12. "Are you weeping?"he asked her.

13. Purnima said to me,"Are the fruits ripe?"

Rule : If the Reported Speech begins with a wh-word, the same wh-word will be used.

Example

14. He said to me,"How much money do you have?"

Ans. He asked me how much money I had.

17. He said to me,"Why did you keep it here?"

18. Ram said to Mira,"When did you come here?:

19. Ram said to Mira,"Where did you go yesterday?"

20. He said,"How many will you eat, old man?"

21. He said to her,"Why did you go to Agartala yesterday?"

22. He said to me,"Where are you going now?"

23. She said to me,"When will you pay the money?"

24. My mother said to me,"Why did you not go to school yesterday?"

25. She said,"Where do you live?"

26. Ram said to Mira,"When do you eat youe breakfasr?"

27. She said to me,"How much water will you drink?"

28. She said to me, "Why do you not go to school everyday?"

Rule : In case of exclamatory sentences, instead of the reporting verb, expressions like 'exclaimed', exclaimed with joy', exclaimed with sorrow', or exclaimed regretfully' are generally used according to the meaning of the expression given.
